New experience for Charlie - Surgery

On Sep 1, Charlie broke three metatarsals in his left foot. I was shocked when I saw the X-rays. He went to his first day (one hour) of Kindergarten the next morning and then we went to urgent care. This is what Charlie said when he saw the doctor, "I forgot I wasn't supposed to jump down the stairs, and then I accidentally jumped."

Charlie got a boot to wear and crutches to use, but he had already figured how to get around with a broken foot. And most of the time he was home, he took the boot off and walked on his heal. Surgery was scheduled and this is him just before leaving for North Memorial - the GQ look. This was Sep 11 and he was about 25 % healed (the middle metatarsal could not be set but needed to ne pinned).
All changed into his hospital jammies as a nurse checks his arm band.
He was a bit scared but got happy when they told him he could watch movies.
He chose a Lego movie. But when the sleep doctor found out he had a bowl of yogurt and a part of a banana at about 7:30AM,we were told that the surgery would need to be postponed. the stomach needs to be empty to avoid complications during surgery. So the 10:30AM surgery was changed to 1:30PM.
So he got to watch another movie - Planes.
Look at mom's new clothes - one size fits all.
I got my sleep mask and hair bonnet and am ready to go.
There the team goes to the OR. See you in a couple hours, Charlie.
Charlie in recovery, still hooked up to the monitor and IV.
I am really hungry. I need food. He had several Saltines and Graham Crackers and Apple Juice.
All done and back home. I am really sleepy. He sees the Dr next week. He must keep all weight off the foot and must use the boot. He is such a trooper through it all and usually had a smile on his face.
In four weeks you will be good as new. He has a plate screwed to the bone. Happy healing.
