This past summer my brother, Kirk, made a trip to Norway. We traveled all over and was part of a tour. Almost all our hotels were right on the fjords. We arrived early and visited with our Gulbrandsen second cousins in Oslo - So Fun. We stayed six days after the tour ended and hiked up this mountain - Preikestolen or The Pulpit Rock. It was a grueling climb for this old man but well worth it.
This is the view of Preikestolen from the Lysefjord. This was also where the end of Mission Impossible: Fallout was filmed, but never did they say it was in Norway so everyone thought it was in Kasmir. But it is about a half mile straight down.
To get there we took a ferry from Stavanger. The ferry got close enough to this waterfall to get a bucketful and then gave all those willing to a drink of it. Yes I partook.
Here is a map of the climb. It is a little over two miles up, with big rocks and boulders to climb over.
We made it to the top after climbing for 2 hours and 25 minutes.
Victory pose. We stayed up top until we were rested and then headed down. The return trip only took 1 hour and 55 minutes - I guess gravity helped.
This is what everyone does (not me) when they get to the top - dangle your feet over the edge with a tall ship sailing by.
