With the Missoula reunion done, most of the relatives were on their way home. However, our Norwegians were not leaving until Wednesday morning. The plan was for Judy and I to join Kirstin and Jeff in Glacier National Park for three to four days. Our Norwegians were without transportation (car rentals were too expensive for a couple days) and it would be pretty boring to stay at Ruby's Inn, so Judy decided to stay until they left for the airport and then she joined us. I rode with Kirstin and Jeff and the boys for the three hour (turned four hour) ride to the park. We had some construction to go through a few miles north of Missoula. Then about an hour into the trip a big black Labrador dog started crossing the highway and then hesitated right in front of us. Jeff slammed on the brakes but it was to late. We hit the dog and the outcome was not good. The dog lost against a 4000 pound Durango, towing a 3500 pound camper. This ruined the rest of the trip because the truck belonged to Jeff's dad. The license plate was mashed and the plastic splash guard that is behind the front bumper was broken. Other than that the truck and camper seemed to be okay. After waiting for a half hour, checking, wondering what to do, calling Jeff's dad, we decided to continue on our trip.

We got checked into the camp ground on Lake McDonald and were setting up camp when one of the boys started yelling "Deer, deer", and started walking towards it. Jeff stopped him and said "Shhhh" as the deer walked right through the camp towards the lake.

They are so used to people that the have no fear.

I tried to get a pink sky sunrise shot of Lake McDonald but this is as close as I could get. I was going to get up before 6:00AM each morning to take photos but it was raining during the night and I figured that it would have been a washout. The morning I took this was about half an hour later than planned. Another camper asked if I was going to take some pictures and I indicated I was. He said "You missed it" and he showed me the perfect sunrise pictured that he took just after 6:00AM.

What do three year olds do when they see water? They approach it getting closer and closer as time goes on.

And they threw rocks into the lake. Dad is showing them the proper way to skip rocks. Liam is getting his form down but it will probably be awhile before one actually skips on the water and Logan is getting closer to the edge.

Logan is trying to sneak down to the water without getting caught.

Liam hurling a big one.

He also likes to play squirrel by putting green grapes in his cheeks for a reaction.

Your grandsons are so darling. How neat for a deer to pass by them so close. I'm sorry to hear about the dog. I think I would have cried. That lake is gorgeous even without the pink sky sunset which probably would have been stunning.
